Following is a sampling of works to be shown/sold at our November 2008 show in Chicago. Laura received her BFA in Ceramic Sculpture from Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, in 1996. “After three years teaching and working in my Venice beach studio, I left for NYC to attend the New York Academy of Art to increase my knowledge of human anatomy in both sculpture and painting. In 2006 I decided to dedicate my full attention to oil painting and in 2007 received an Individual Artist Grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.” “This show represents works I have created over the last two years. I have always been attracted to the use of the human figure as a means to communicate a feeling or idea. When working in sculpture, it is important to me that the surface design relates to the form. When I began to paint, the illusion of creating a believable three dimensional image was very intriguing. My attraction to people with tattoos began because of how the two dimensional design ‘the tattoo’ related to the figure both emotionally and physically, in some cases pushing the illusion of space and three dimension.” “Most of my work involves an individual as a subject, but my latest work is beginning to incorporate more than one person, like ‘Venus and Psyche’ I have begun to explore the emotional and physical relationships that exist between two figures that share the same space.” < RETURN TO OUR NEW ONLINE GALLERY OF AVAILABLE ART!
