within(Reason) is an experimental gallery space and website for contemporary art and photography launched in May 2008. Our goals: to provoke, inspire, delight, warn, educate, help.
Much of our summer and fall programming for 2008 is raising awareness and funds for a few special causes. All proceeds from our first show, "Hope In a Hard Place," have gone to help folks in Nairobi's Kibera slum, via registration of a kids' club, the financing of youth arts programs, and the creation of a church library. Read more about that here. Wondering how you can help? Check out our fundraiser plan - offering a quick, unique holiday gift idea, too! Closer to home, our September 2008 show raised $2,000 to benefit arts programs at Pilsen schools in Chicago.
The space has been created by photographer-designer-gallerist Ron Reason of Chicago, who has ...
  • WORKED as a design and photo editor and as creative consultant to some of the world's best and largest newspapers
  • TAUGHT typography and advanced graphic design studio courses at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Fla.
  • LECTURED on graphic thinking and creativity worldwide, in such places as Moscow, Oslo, Reikjavik, New Delhi, Madrid, Dubai, Singapore, Sao Paulo, Lisbon (Ohio) and Venice (Florida)
  • LIVED and worked in Buenos Aires, Nairobi, and Black Rock City, Nev.
  • TRAVELED to 27 countries, including in recent months, Tel Aviv, India, United Arab Emirates, Great Britain, Egypt, Nigeria and Kenya
  • LAUNCHED the adventure blog, Travel With Reason
  • DIRECTED for five years the Visual Journalism Department (seminars and research on photography, graphics, design and editing) at The Poynter Institute for Media Studies, where he remains a Visiting Faculty member
Goals of the space: provoke. inspire. delight. warn. educate. help.
